Ambessa is a high-skill assassin-fighter whose Q passive dash chain is one of the most mobile kits in the game. Learn the dash cancel timing to maximize repositioning, and look to snowball early kills into solo-carry games.
Abilities
Skills Overview
P
Drakehound's Step
Passive
Entering an attack or movement command while casting an ability will cause Ambessa to dash a short distance once the ability is cast, granting her next attack bonus range, damage, and attack speed, and refunding energy.
Q
Cunning Sweep / Sundering Slam
Cunning Action — Dash forward and slash, can chain into passive dash
Ambessa sweeps her twin drakehounds in a semicircle in front of her, dealing bonus damage to enemies hit by the blades. Striking an enemy will transform the next cast of this ability for a short period of time, causing her to slam her twin drakehounds down in a line in front of her, dealing bonus damage to the first enemy hit.
CD: 14/13/12/11/10 · Cost: 70
Chain Q into passive dash to move through enemies and reposition rapidly — Q forward, dash back, Q again.
W
Repudiation
Repudiation — Parry incoming damage, empowered on successful block
Ambessa gains a shield, briefly braces herself, and then slams the ground to damage nearby enemies. If she blocked any non-minion damage while bracing herself, this ability will deal increased damage.
CD: 18/17/16/15/14 · Cost: 70
Time W to parry enemy key abilities — a successful block empowers your next attack for bonus damage.
E
Lacerate
Lacerate — AoE slash that applies Ire stacks
Ambessa whips her twin drakehounds around herself, damaging and slowing nearby enemies. Initiating Drakehound's Step from this ability causes her to strike a second time at the end of its dash.
CD: 13/12/11/10/9 · Cost: 70
Use E to apply Ire stacks on multiple enemies in the AoE — stack Ire before committing to a kill.
R
Public Execution
Public Execution — Leap onto a target for massive single-target damage
Ambessa blinks to the farthest enemy champion in a line of her choosing and suppresses them upon her arrival. She then slams the enemy into the ground where they take damage and are stunned.
CD: 130/115/100 · Cost: 0
R on isolated low-HP targets for near-guaranteed executes. Don't R into a grouped team — save it for picks.
Skill Leveling Order — Max Q for maximum mobility and burst damage. Then E for Ire stacking, last W.

Gameplay
How to Play Ambessa
01
Early Game
Early Phase
- Q forward into enemy → passive dash back → Q again is your core lane trade pattern.
- W to parry key abilities like Darius Q or Fiora Parry.
- Stack Ire with E before committing to all-ins.
- At 6, R isolated enemies after the Q combo removes most of their HP.
02
Mid Game
Mid Phase
- Roam with your W+Q mobility to pick off isolated mid laners.
- Your item spike at Stridebreaker is when you can duel almost anyone.
- Keep splitting between ganks — Ambessa is a strong 1v1 fighter.
03
Late Game
Late Phase
- In teamfights, flank with Q dashes to reach their backline carry.
- R the priority target, dash chain through to survive retaliation.
- Your W parry blocks key abilities that would otherwise shut down your dive.
Teamfighting
How to Teamfight as Ambessa
Ambessa excels at flanking and backline access in teamfights. Q dash through their frontline, R the priority carry, and use W parry to block the key ability that would otherwise force you out.
1
Flank — Q Dash Through Frontline
Fight opener
01
Position at flank angle before the fight — Q dash through their frontline, not into it.
02
E to stack Ire on multiple enemies while dashing through.
03
R the priority carry when isolated or low HP after your dash sequence.
Never R into a fully grouped team — R isolated or low-HP carries only. The leap leaves you vulnerable to AoE.
2
Mid-Fight — W Parry Key Abilities
Sustained dive
01
W to parry the CC ability that would stop your dive — time it on Malphite R or Amumu R.
02
Continue Q dash chain between enemies to stay mobile and hard to pin down.
03
Collect Triumph heals from kills to stay alive deep in their team.
3
Cleanup — Unstoppable Carry
Late fight
01
Q dash to fleeing enemies — your mobility outpaces most escape tools at this point.
02
R any remaining priority target who survived the initial burst.
03
Sterak's shield activates when low HP — survive through the last cleanup hits.
Q dash cancels into auto-attacks between dashes — weave autos in the dash chain for Conqueror stacking and Ire generation.

Ambessa is countered by champions with point-and-click CC that interrupts her dash chain, and ranged poke that denies her Q approach.

Loses Against
Malphite's R is an unstoppable knockup that interrupts all of Ambessa's dashes. His armor scaling reduces all her AD damage.
W parry the R if possible — otherwise avoid grouping near Malphite when his R is up. Build lethality to cut armor.
Darius's Hemorrhage stacks follow Ambessa through Q dashes. His E pull brings her back into his execute range.
W parry Darius's Q to deny the heal component. Short trades only — never stay long enough for 5 Hemorrhage stacks.
Warwick's R suppression stops all of Ambessa's dashes. His sustain recovers from her burst patterns.
Bait out Warwick's R before committing to a full combo. His suppression is the only thing that truly stops your mobility.
Wins Against
Garen has no mobility to respond to Ambessa's Q dash chain. His silence is too short to prevent the full combo.
Q dash through Garen repeatedly to build Ire stacks. His silence lasts 1.5s — your dash chain is faster.
Nasus can't stack against Ambessa's constant harassment. Her Q dash denies his Q stacking on waves.
Zone Nasus off every wave with Q dashes. He has no reliable way to stop your approach.
Malphite's passive shield charges so slowly against Ambessa's rapid Q dash harassment — she breaks it every time.
Q harass every time Malphite's shield charges. Pre-6 he cannot fight back against your dash mobility.
