The Story of Udyr
Udyr is the most powerful spirit walker alive — a Freljordian man who can channel the primal spirits that animate the Freljord's landscape through his own body, transforming into animal aspects: the turtle's resilience, the bear's strength, the tiger's speed, the phoenix's fire. He can channel more spirits at once, and more completely, than any other spirit walker in recorded history. This is not a comfortable condition.
The spirits don't respect personal boundaries. They are ancient forces with their own drives and imperatives, and channeling them means briefly becoming something other than yourself while retaining enough awareness to direct that something. Udyr has done this so many times, for so long, that the boundaries between Udyr-the-man and the spirits he channels have become genuinely blurry. He is always multiple things at once. Managing that multiplicity is the work of every moment of his existence.
He spent time in isolation on a mountaintop trying to find equilibrium, and emerged with better control and a changed perspective on what he is and what spirit walking requires. He now teaches others, and participates in the Freljord's ongoing conflicts with the careful deliberation of someone who knows that his presence in a fight has consequences beyond the immediate tactical situation. He is dangerous in ways that even the Freljord, which produces many dangerous things, treats with particular respect.
