The Story of Anivia
Anivia is one of the Freljord's most ancient and powerful spirits — a cryophoenix who embodies the continent's cycle of death and rebirth. She has lived through more ages of the Freljord than any living creature can comprehend, dying with each winter and being reborn in the thaw, carrying forward the memory of everything the cold has claimed and everything it has returned. She is not a person in the conventional sense. She is a force that has developed personhood over millennia.
Her purpose is to protect the Freljord — not as a soldier or a queen, but as the land's immune system, its ancient guardian, the thing that has watched civilizations rise and collapse and has outlasted every threat because threats pass and ice endures. She has seen the Watchers stir before. She knows the Void's hunger is not new. She knows that the Freljord's feuding tribes are a tragedy at any scale smaller than the geological, and she has watched it with the particular grief of a creature who has seen this pattern repeat.
Her relationship with Lissandra is the deepest betrayal in Freljordian mythology — an ancient enemy who has been winning slowly for longer than most things have existed. Anivia knows what Lissandra is, knows what she does, and has been unable to stop it across ages of conflict. She continues because giving up is not something she is capable of. Ice does not yield. She is ice.
