The Story of Aurora
Aurora is a vastaya from the Freljord — a rabbit-eared spirit walker who exists simultaneously in the material world and the spirit realm, able to perceive and interact with the spirits that most people cannot see. She was born with this dual perception, and the communities she grew up in treated it as a gift of unclear blessing: useful, respected, and also slightly alarming to be around when the spirits are restless and Aurora is responding to things nobody else can detect.
She wanders between Freljord settlements as a spirit walker does: going where the spirit world's needs align with the physical world's, mediating between the two realms, addressing imbalances that ordinary people can't see and therefore can't fix. She is good at this. She is also, beneath the competence, a young person navigating what it means to have a gift that sets you apart from everyone around you and that you did not choose.
The Freljord's spirit realm is not tranquil. The ancient forces that move through it — the Watchers' slow pressure, the Volibear's thunder, the Winter's Claw's prayers — create a landscape that requires constant attention and delicate handling. Aurora provides this attention with a precision that belies her age, and a warmth that is distinctly her own. She talks to spirits the way you talk to people you respect: directly, honestly, and with the expectation that they will do the same.
