Sett

the Boss

A leader of Ionia's growing criminal underworld, Sett rose to prominence in the wake of the war with Noxus. Though he began as a humble challenger in the fighting pits of Navori, he quickly gained notoriety for his savage strength, and his ability to take seemingly endless amounts of punishment. Now, having climbed through the ranks of local combatants, Sett has muscled to the top, reigning over the pits he once fought in.

The Story of Sett

Sett grew up in Ionia as the son of a vastayan father who left and a human mother who stayed. He was neither one thing nor the other — too vastayan for Ionia's human communities, too human for its vastayan ones — and he responded to this by becoming too strong for anyone's categories to stick. He found the fighting pits of Ionia's underworld and became their champion, then their owner, rising through the specific mechanism available to him: he is very large, very strong, and very good at fighting.

He runs the pit-fighting circuit now — the Boss, as his fighters call him — with the organizational intelligence of someone who has been managed by bad bosses and has very clear ideas about what good management looks like. He pays fairly. He enforces agreements. He maintains the pit's operations with the efficiency of someone who understands that reputation is infrastructure and that a boss who breaks his word loses his operation. He is surprisingly principled for someone in his business.

The father who left has become relevant again in ways that Sett is navigating. He has built something in his father's absence — built it from nothing, with his mother's stubbornness and his own strength — and the return of his origin story into the present complicates what he thought was a resolved question. He is working through this. In the meantime, the pits are running, the fighters are paid, and nobody who has tried to take what he's built has managed to do it.
