Lee Sin

the Blind Monk

A master of Ionia's ancient martial arts, Lee Sin is a principled fighter who channels the essence of the dragon spirit to face any challenge. Though he lost his sight many years ago, the warrior-monk has devoted his life to protecting his homeland against any who would dare upset its sacred balance. Enemies who underestimate his meditative demeanor will endure his fabled burning fists and blazing roundhouse kicks.

Origin & Background

The Story of Lee Sin

Lee Sin was already one of Ionia's most gifted martial artists when he made the mistake that defined his life. Seeking to stop a warlord who was devastating the countryside, he summoned a spirit from the Celestial realm — a dangerous act that his teachers had forbidden for reasons he was too confident to fully consider. The spirit was real and powerful. It was also uncontrolled, and it burned out the eyes of everyone around him before he managed to contain it.

He blinded himself as penance. The logic was simple and unsparing: he had caused blindness, and a just accounting required him to share that condition. Then he spent years in a monastery learning to fight without sight — learning to hear breath and footfall, to feel the vibrations of combat, to perceive the world through sensation rather than vision. He emerged as something genuinely extraordinary: a master martial artist whose blindness had become a different kind of seeing.

Lee Sin now wanders Ionia, applying his martial mastery wherever it's needed, fighting with the precision of someone who has more than compensated for what he lost. He has not forgiven himself for what happened, and he doesn't expect to. But he has found a way to make his presence in the world a net positive, which he regards as the only meaningful form of penance available. He is one of Ionia's greatest warriors. He is also one of its most troubled.
