The Story of Annie
Annie is a child born to a powerful magic user and raised in Noxus's borderlands, in the grey zone where the empire's reach grows thin and strange things survive. Her magical ability manifested early and catastrophically — she burned her stepmother Amoline to ash in an accident that she did not entirely understand. The experience left her with power she couldn't fully control, guilt she processed imperfectly, and a bear-shaped stuffed animal named Tibbers that she has loved with single-minded devotion.
Tibbers is not a normal stuffed animal. He is a bound fire demon — or rather, a stuffed bear that Annie's magic has linked to a fire demon she can summon through it. When she plays with Tibbers, she is playing with a child's comfort object. When she needs Tibbers to protect her, she is releasing a creature of pure fire. The combination of these two facts captures everything about Annie: she is genuinely a child, with a child's attachments and a child's emotional landscape, who happens to be catastrophically dangerous.
She wanders the Noxian wilderness now, following her father whose loyalties to magic have made him a fugitive from the empire's anti-magic factions. She is not malevolent. She is curious, lonely, and very powerful, and the gap between what she intends and what she can cause has already closed tragically once. The dark forest she moves through is safer for most things than it is for anything that threatens Tibbers or her father. Fire does not ask permission before it burns.
