The Story of Akshan
Akshan grew up in Shurima's marginalized communities, learning survival skills under a mentor who gave him something rarer than combat training: a moral framework for when killing is justified and when it crosses a line. His mentor, Shadya, was eventually murdered by a villain called Bukama — and Akshan discovered, in the specific way his enchanted weapon Absolver works, that killing Bukama would bring Shadya back. Absolver can resurrect those killed by a Scoundrel — but only if Akshan kills the killer before that killer kills again.
This mechanic has become the engine of his mission. Akshan hunts Scoundrels — people who murder with impunity, who use power to destroy innocent lives — not purely for revenge but because their deaths unlock the return of people who deserve to live. He is simultaneously a vigilante operating on his own moral authority and an instrument of something larger than himself, a weapon that turns death into a paradoxical form of life.
He approaches all of this with an irreverence that could read as disrespect but is actually armor. He jokes, taunts his targets, treats every mission like an adventure he's confident he'll survive. This is not carelessness — it's a deliberate choice to remain human in a job that strips humanity away from people who do it without safeguards. His mentor taught him to care about the people behind the mission. He honors that by never letting the mission make him stop caring.
