The Story of Sylas
Sylas of Dregbourne was a mage born into Demacia's working class — the worst possible combination in a kingdom that suppresses magic. He was discovered as a child and imprisoned in the Mageseekers' facility, where he spent his formative years in chains that Demacia designed specifically to contain magic users. He was used as a magical detector, a tool for identifying other mages, because his ability to drain and use others' powers made him detectable and useful even while imprisoned.
He was not broken by this. He was forged into something specific: someone with comprehensive knowledge of what Demacia does to mages, intimate experience of the institutions that do it, and the absolute conviction that revolution — not reform, revolution — is the only appropriate response. When he eventually escaped, leaving destruction behind him, he didn't run far. He started organizing.
The Mage Revolt he sparked was everything Demacia feared: mages who had been persecuted past the point of any interest in the kingdom's welfare, fighting back. He is not a gentle revolutionary. He does not believe in gentle as a category that exists when the other side uses chains. He may be right. He may be wrong in ways that cost other mages what he spent his life trying to give them. He continues because giving up on something he bled for is not something he knows how to do.
