The Story of Renata Glasc
Renata Glasc grew up in Zaun's lowest levels as the daughter of two chemists who ran an apothecary — good people trying to help their community through medicine they made from what Zaun's chemical environment provided. The chem-barons destroyed them: when her parents' work became profitable enough to be noticed, the powerful simply took it, and when the parents resisted, they died. Renata watched this happen and decided, with the clarity of a child who has seen exactly how power works, that she would have more of it than anyone who might threaten the people she loved.
She built a corporation. Glasc Industries provides Hextech enhancements, but its most important product is a substance called Bravado — a chemical that makes the people who take it fiercely loyal to the person who gave it to them. She distributes this through her business partnerships. The allegiances of Piltover's major institutions are correspondingly complicated. She owns, in practical terms, significant portions of the city-state's loyalty infrastructure.
She is honest about what she is. She is a businesswoman who operates through leverage and dependency, who has built herself to a position where she cannot be destroyed the way her parents were, and who extends protection to her employees and partners because loyal people are more valuable than disposable ones. She does not claim to be good. She claims to be effective, and to use her effectiveness in ways that protect the people she has decided to protect. This is more than most powerful people in Zaun can say.
