The Story of Miss Fortune
Sarah Fortune was twelve years old when Gangplank's men came for her family. Her mother pushed her into a chest and told her not to make a sound. Sarah didn't. She stayed hidden while Gangplank himself — the Saltwater Scourge, the most feared pirate king in Bilgewater — executed her mother. Sarah Fortune walked out of that chest with a single purpose, and she has been building toward it ever since.
She became a bounty hunter, a gunslinger, a captain, and a player in Bilgewater's complicated criminal politics — acquiring reputation, resources, and allies she would need for the moment she'd planned since childhood. When she finally had Gangplank at her mercy, she used it surgically: a public humiliation, an explosion that dismantled his fleet, and a power vacuum she helped create and then moved into. Bilgewater's new order has Miss Fortune's fingerprints all over it.
The Bounty Hunter uses Bilgewater's criminal underworld as her hunting ground — partly for profit, partly because she knows the underbelly better than anyone, and partly because the kind of predators who prey on the desperate need to be afraid of something. She's not finished with Gangplank, even after his downfall. She never will be.
