The Story of Graves
Malcolm Graves is a professional criminal, gambler, smuggler, and bounty hunter who has been wanted in some jurisdiction or another for most of his adult life. He has never particularly cared. The warrants represent a history of jobs done, scores settled, and enemies made — all of which Graves considers evidence of a life well lived. He is not good, exactly. He is competent, direct, and loyal to people who've earned it, which is a narrower category than most would like.
His partnership with Twisted Fate is the longest relationship he's maintained with anyone. They met young, operated as a team for years, and then Twisted Fate sold him out to save his own skin. Graves spent significant time in prison as a result. When he got out, his first priority was finding Twisted Fate — not necessarily to kill him, but definitely to make the entire experience extremely unpleasant. The partnership eventually resumed, which says something about both of them.
Bilgewater is Graves's natural habitat: a port city built on crime, gambling, and maritime violence, where reputation matters more than law and the best deals happen below the waterline. He doesn't love it there, but it's where his contacts are, where his kind of work gets commissioned, and where a man of his particular skill set is valued rather than prosecuted. He's been shot at in nicer places. He prefers Bilgewater.
