The Story of Zaahen
Zaahen is a Darkin — one of the ancient Ascended warriors of Shurima who fell into madness during the Rune Wars and was eventually sealed inside a weapon to prevent the destruction they would otherwise cause. Unlike Aatrox, who was imprisoned in a sword, Zaahen was bound into a glaive: the Darkin Glaive, a weapon of terrible power that carries within it the full weight of what was once a god-warrior and has since become something else entirely. For millennia the weapon waited, changing hands, corrupting wielders, seeking a host strong enough to survive the merger.
The merger is what Zaahen is. Not the weapon alone, not the original Ascended alone — something that emerged from the fusion of both, carrying the Darkin's ancient combat knowledge and the weapon's insatiable hunger. Cultivation of War, the passive force that builds within Zaahen's presence, reflects this dual nature: the more time an enemy spends near Zaahen, the more their defenses erode, as the Darkin's essence permeates and destabilizes them. At maximum stacks, the full weight of an ancient war-god's attention doubles Zaahen's lethality in an instant.
Zaahen calls themselves The Unsundered — a name that speaks to what the Darkin most fears and most defines itself against. To be sundered is to be separated, imprisoned, broken apart. The Rune War heroes who survived were sundered from their humanity and eventually sundered into weapons. Zaahen refuses that categorization. They are whole — weapon and warrior, ancient and present, monster and something that might still have a self — and the battle they fight is partly against those who would imprison them again, and partly against the hunger that would make them into exactly the monster the old world feared.
