The Story of Jayce
Jayce is Piltover's most celebrated inventor and the primary architect of Hextech's current development trajectory — a position he arrived at through genuine brilliance and a particular talent for turning theoretical breakthroughs into practical applications at a speed that left his colleagues simultaneously impressed and slightly breathless. He is also a politician now, which he is less naturally good at and more necessary than he'd prefer.
His hammer is his most famous invention: a weapon that can reconfigure between a massive hammer that concentrates arcane force and a cannon that fires charged energy bolts, switching between configurations with a speed that makes it more versatile than either alone. He made it himself, which is both a statement about his engineering capability and a statement about his preferred approach to problems: if a problem requires a specific tool and the tool doesn't exist, make the tool.
He and Viktor worked together once — collaborated closely, shared research, pushed each other toward things neither would have reached alone. Viktor's path diverged. Jayce finds the divergence troubling in ways he hasn't fully articulated: Viktor's Glorious Evolution represents a direction that Hextech could take, that progress could take, that Jayce himself could have gone toward. He chose a different path. He is not always certain he was right, but he continues building on the foundation of that choice.
