Heimerdinger

the Revered Inventor

The eccentric Professor Cecil B. Heimerdinger is one of the most innovative and esteemed inventors the world has ever known. As the longest serving member of the Council of Piltover, he saw the best and the worst of the city's unending desire for progress. Nonetheless, this brilliant scientist and teacher will always remain dedicated to using his unconventional devices to improve the lives of others.

Origin & Background

The Story of Heimerdinger

Heimerdinger is one of Piltover's most celebrated inventors — a yordle who has dedicated his long life to the intersection of magic and technology, a field he was instrumental in naming "Hextech." He is brilliant in the specific way that requires social translation: his understanding of mechanisms and magical theory operates at a level his colleagues struggle to follow, which means the ideas come faster than the collaborations, and the collaborations matter more than he always remembers.

His relationship to his own creations is that of a proud and slightly absent-minded parent. His turrets, his rockets, his explosive grenades — these are all, in some sense, extensions of problems he found interesting and solved. The solutions tend toward spectacular. He believes in the power of science to improve human (and Yordle) life, and he holds this belief with the sincerity of someone who has not yet fully processed that the same technology that heals can also be pointed at people.

The events of Zaun's political crisis have affected him more than he publicly acknowledges. He was a member of the Piltover Council, an institution that made decisions with confident ignorance of their consequences for the Undercity. The weight of what comfortable expertise costs is something he is learning — slowly, with characteristic detours into interesting theoretical problems — but learning.
