The Story of Qiyana
Qiyana is Ixtal's youngest royal daughter and the nation's most gifted elemental mage — a combination she has treated as proof that she is destined for more than her birth order provides. Ixtal is a hidden nation of elemental mages who withdrew from the world centuries ago to protect their traditions, and its royal line controls access to the magic that keeps the country functioning. As the youngest of nine siblings, Qiyana's inheritance was ceremonial rather than substantial.
She rejects this assessment completely. She is more talented than her siblings. She has worked harder. The elemental magic she wields — combining water, rock, and vegetation in techniques that require more precision and power than most Ixtali mages can manage — represents the fullest expression of what Ixtal's tradition can produce. That she was born last should not mean anything to a tradition that claims to value mastery over circumstance. She believes this deeply and has dedicated herself to proving it.
Her methods have not always been principled. She has used forbidden magic, manipulated alliances, and taken actions that put Ixtal's secrecy at risk in pursuit of recognition and power. She is not unaware of this. She is young enough and ambitious enough that the awareness hasn't translated into restraint. She wants what she believes she deserves, and she intends to take it, and she is talented enough that this goal remains genuinely within reach.
