Aurelion Sol

The Star Forger

Aurelion Sol once graced the vast emptiness of the cosmos with celestial wonders of his own devising. Now, he is forced to wield his awesome power at the behest of a space-faring empire that tricked him into servitude. Desiring a return to his star-forging ways, Aurelion Sol will drag the very stars from the sky, if he must, in order to regain his freedom.

Origin & Background

The Story of Aurelion Sol

Aurelion Sol is among the oldest beings in the universe — a star forger who has existed since before Runeterra solidified out of the cosmic debris, who has created countless solar systems and watched civilizations bloom and collapse around stars he made on a whim. He was not born with the assumption that anything on a planet's surface could matter to something like him. This made him easy to deceive.

The Targonians — the celestial power that operates on Mount Targon — tricked him into wearing a crown of stars they claimed was a gift. The crown is a control device. It keeps him bound to Runeterra, bent to the service of the Aspects, forced to perform feats of cosmic power on behalf of creatures so small and brief-lived that he finds it impossible to maintain consistent contempt for them. He is genuinely enslaved, and he knows it, and this knowledge is a constant source of magnificent, operatic fury.

He will be free eventually. He is absolutely certain of this. And when he is free, there will be an accounting for every indignity suffered, every petty task completed, every moment of cosmic magnificence wasted on the concerns of mortals too small to deserve it. In the meantime, he is a dragon of unimaginable power being used as a tool, and he has refined his opinions about this situation to a level of articulate loathing that is, in its way, its own form of art.
